K–12 Pathway Initiatives

Believing one is never too young to begin thinking like an architect, the American Institute of Architects K–12 initiatives follow a blueprint with three key goals in mind:

  1. inspire youth to learn about the power of design

  2. nourish youth’s curiosity to engage in solving grand challenges with design thinking

  3. connect with mentors and advocates who can help students become architects

Project Pipeline Summer Camps

Local chapters of the National Organization of Minority Architects sponsor summer camps for 6th–12th grade students of color to provide opportunities to learn the fundamentals of architecture and design. Using the city as the classroom, architects and designers guide and encourage Project Pipeline students to create the designs they would like to see in their own communities. Not only do students create designs, but they are also connected with mentors in the architecture field to help guide their interests. For many students, Project Pipeline is their first introduction to the design world.
